Completely Accurate Predicting of the 2018 Washington Redkskins 53 Man Roster
After OTA's but before training camp, here's our exclusive look at how the Redskins final roster is (likely) to shape out.
QB Alex Smith Colt McCoy Kevin Hogan Breakdown: Alex Smith is here to run Jay Gruden\'s offense to the extent that Kirk Cousins could not. 2017\'s QBR leader arrives in Washington after consecutive playoff seasons with the Chiefs. Colt McCoy is esteemed as one of the best backups in the league, and the Redskins could practice squad Hogan after trading a conditional pick to the Browns for him. HB Derrius Guice Rob Kelley Chris Thomas Samaje Perine Breakdown: After catching a free falling Derrius Guice at pick 59, the Redskins appear to finally have a workhorse back. Rob Kelley and Samaje Perine are a pair of capable young powerbacks still on rookie contracts, and Chris Thompson is a top-5 receiving back in the league. WR Josh Doctson Paul Richardson Jameson Crowder Mo Harris Robert Davis Trey Quinn Breakdown: The Redskins WR room doesn\'t boast an elite wideout, but does still boast impressive depth. The Redskins also can store WR Simmie Cobbs on practice squad, or even roll with him on the 53 and send a guy like Davis down to the PS to develop more. After adding Paul Richardson from Seattle, Washington has its best deep threat since Desean Jackson. Josh Doctson could develop into an alpha dog receiver with his jumping ability and impressive catch radius, but only time will tell. TE Jordan Reed Vernon Davis Jeremy Sprinkle Breakdown: Redskins losing Niles Paul (a former special teams captain) makes way for athletic youngster Sprinkle to make the roster. If Jordan Reed can stay healthy, him and Davis are a top 1-2 punch in the league. FB Who knows....but: Wild Prediction Breakdown: The Redskins WILL find or convert a FB in training camp and carry him on the 53. The addition of Guice opens up Jay Gruden\'s playbook to a lot of power I running concepts. OT Ty Nseke Trent Williams Geron Christionson Morgan Moses TJ Clemmings Breakdown: After being on the fringe of a full roster breakdown due to injuries last year, the Redskins needed to address the depth of the offensive tackle position this offseason. Christianson was a nice add as a 3rd round pick the Redskins obtained from trading down. OG Shawn Lavou Brandon Sherff Breakdown: Sherff has RG locked down, but the Left Guard position is massively up for grabs this summer. Should be fun to watch. C Chase Roullier Tony Bergstrom Breakdown: Tony Berg serves as Guard depth as well. No studs here but hopefully Roullier can take the second year leap. DL Jonathan Allen Daron Payne Matt Ionnidis Tim Settle Stacy McGee Anthony Lanier Phil Taylor Breakdown: Turned a weakness into a strength this offseason by drafting Daron Payne in the first round and stealing DT Tim Settle in the 5th. Jonathan Allen and Matt Ionnidis returning from injury make this unit a candidate to the top of the league. OLB Ryan Kerrigan Preston Smith Ryan Anderson Pernell McPhee Breakdown: After losing Trent Murphy and Junior Gallette, the Redskins are auditioning a cast of blitz-mates opposite franchise cornerstone Ryan Kerrigan. ILB Zach Brown Mason Foster Shaun Dion Hamilton After resigning Brown and Foster, the Skins are locked up this year (Barring injuries hehe). Hamilton is a speedy rookie linebacker from Alabama with a lot of potential. The Alabama defense has trickled its culture into our front seven (4 Alabama front 7 players drafted in past two years, 2 were in 1st round.) This unit should be a lot softer against the run than in years previous. CB Fabian Moreau Orlando Scandrick Josh Norman Quinton Dunbar Josh Holsley Greg Stroman Breakdown: Probably the Skins biggest question mark. Josh Normal isn\'t the best corner in the league anymore, and the projected starters next to him aren\'t necessarily jersey sellers. The strength of this unit depends heavily on the development and rehabilitation of former 3rd round pick Fabian Moraeu. Scandrick is a useful free-agent signing who can tell us all of the Cowboys plays, and averagely play slot corner if need be. S Montae Nicholson DJ Swearinger Deshazor Everett Troy Apke Fish Smithson Breakdown: DJ Swearinger has evolved into a vocal leader of the defense, and second year S Montae Nicholson showed massive potential as a rangy ball hawk last season. Apke will ideally play on special teams, a 2018 4th round pick who blazed the combine with 4.3 speed. K Dustin Hopkins P Tress Way LS Nick Sunderburg Breakdown: When healthy, they can make field goals and punt the ball. No game changers here but no liabilities either. Consistent unit of specialists. Conclusion: All in all, this is likely to be some iteration of the Redskins final 53 roster this August. If this group can stay healthy, and Alex Smith adequately adjusts to his new offensive scheme and weapons, they can fight for a playoff spot and even make a push come this January.
