Matthew stafford

Not to be confused with former Irish politician Matt Stafford, this No.1 overall draft pick out of Georgia was the fastest player in NFL history to reach 20,000 yards (71 games) and he is 1 of only 4 quarterbacks in NFL history to ever throw for over 5,000 yards in a single season. His gunslinger mentality combined with the fact that he is throwing to one of the NFL's best wideouts Calvin Johnson makes for a dynamic duo that can give defensive coordinator's nightmares when dialed in. He certaintly has the arm strength, but sometimes he doesn't know how to use it for good and he has a tendancy to make erratic desicions when excited and that can sometimes result in unintended mistakes, kind of like in an Of Mice and Men type of way.

"4 more years of this shit and i'll be out and playing with the rabbits..." he thought to himself

Joking aside, Stafford has got it pretty good. When he's not throwing passes to a young and talented Lions team, it seems like he just hangs out with hot girls all day

While that life may be entertaining to speculate on, those pictures do not do Stafford justice in describing him. Because while he may be a pimp, that pales in comparison to what he can do on the field. For that reason, I am actually bending the rules and using 11 peices of media on the first installment of this Doggy Style Sports exclusive series titled Player Profiles in 7 Peices of Media. So without much more ado, I will try to paint a picture of Matt Stafford in your mind using a series of videos to be watched in chronological order.

First up,...

1. The mic'd up comback win agaisnt the Cleveland Browns

This video should be the first you watch because it really is the most awesome Stafford clip. For those who can't watch for some weird reason: he gets hurt, goes on sideline, comes back in game to one last pass which is the gamewinning touchdown. Pretty cool.

2. Stafford throws random objects impressively far

iub

Stafford is widely regarded as having one of the strongest, if not the strongest, arms in the NFL.

In no possible peice of media could that be on display better than in this video. Just Kidding. Nothing in this video is mind blowing, but he does chuck what is believed to be an avacodo 63 yards without really trying. For what it's worth, I once heard that Bo Jackson once threw a grapefruit over 100 yards. In a sports world that is constantly evolving due to medicine and technology, I give it a year until they introduce this at the combine.

3. Stafford and Megatron mic'd up in win over Colts

This one is cool because you get a lot more insight as to what gameday is like for the Lions. Notice that Stafford isn't the one giving pre-game speeches, but rather it is scrub defensive back Louis Delmas and injured veteran WR Nate Burleson. I would not call it a lack of vocal leadership, but rather a testiment to Staffords laid back demeanor. Once the game began, he casually began to employ his likeable douchebag personality while leading his team  down the feild. One thing about Stafford that not a lot of people talk about is that you can tell that he is relaxed and enjoying himself whille playing football, which is a luxary to watch really in an NFL where teams are led by cringe-worthy quartback play due to hesitation and trepidation in the pocket. Another that thing here that pops out on tape is the same thing that always pops out everytime I ever watch Lions film: Calvin Johnson is just too good. Combine that with the fact that Lions had the No. 1 defense in the league last year and life as a quarterback seemingly couldn't get any better for our featured athlete of the week. If only there wasn't packs of wild dogs roaming around the Lions practice facility because Detroit is a shithole....

4. Sound FX: Getting Hit

Nothing meaningful. Just a bunch of sound bytes that get you really familiar with the way he yells. Would watch with the volume on loud while eating dinner. They say getting hit is a character building process, and this video shows a lot of it, including the hit that lead to the circumstances in our No. 1 video. As my grandpa always used to say, "It's not whether you got knocked down, but its whether you got back up."  This video and the next video really show the tenacity that Stafford has that allows him to be a high-level competitor.

5. Matthew Stafford vs. D.J. Moore Fight

I like this one because it show's that Stafford's not affraid to get a little down and dirty for his team. The fact that his teammates swarmed on D.J. Moore immediately shows that he has their respect and they have his back. Some QB's around the leage are prissy, but that puts a stigma at the position that all quarterbacks are divas. Certaintly not true in this case, anyways. Fuck da Bears.

6. Obligatory E:60 documentary

Don't really have much to say about this one. Some cool stories, some solid background information. Sports fans always facinate me (myself included) because they are willing to listen to and read some really boring shit, as long as it is about our favorite athletes.  If you like boring biographies or are about to put something on to fuck your girlfriend to, then this one's for you. Tipey-Tow.

And finally, last but not least...

7. Painfully awkward interveiw between Stafford, wife, TMZ

Sometimes, an interveiw is awkward. No getting around that. It's not infathomable that two people who don't know eachtother at all may lack rapport or chemistry with eachother. Sometimes it is the interveiwees fault for providing bad answers, ---cough Jim Harbaugh--- but sometimes in an impromptu interveiw where you are clearly bothering the person, sometimes it is just best to fufill your job duty but be able to read a person. I mean come on, this guy was taking advantage of Matty's calmness big time. The fact that he stood there and ansewred questions from that jackass for so long is a telling tale, among other telling tales, that Matthew Stafford is calm, cool, and hopefully he can collect momentum entering his 7th year in the league. Right now he is considered an on the fence elite quarterback, but this year will be his make or break year to prove he can really get the engine going in the Motor City. ~
