Reasons the Titans will draft Mariota

If you've passed by a TV with SportsCenter on in the past week, I'm sure you've heard of a guy named Marcus Mariota. From Hawaii, 38 TDs to 2 INTs, just a product of his college system, blah blah blah. If you've sat in front of a TV playing SportsCenter sometime over the past week, then I'm sure you have heard some form of speculation involving Phillip Rivers being traded to the Titans and in exchange, the Chargers will get the number 2 overall pick with which they will select QB Marcus Mariota. Let me tell you why this, or some 7 team trade where Chip Kelly and the Eagles end up with the Oregon stand out will not happen. The Titans simply are not in a position to pass up on a future franchise QB. Do I think that the Titans believe in Zach Mettenberger? Sure. Do I think that they would pass up on an oppurtunity to add SOMEBODY with name recognition? Absolutely not. Mariota has been lauded by many draftniks to be one of the safest QB prospects since Andrew Luck, and personally I have him ranked very high too. But that's not the only reason the Titans will select him. Plain and simple, football exists because people want to watch it. People have certain players and teams that they like to watch play, and these certain personalities are what get people invested. Patriots fans are fans of the team for more then the uniform. It's Tom Brady. It's Bill Belicheck. (The winning ways don't hurt) For a team like the Titans to lack any sort of personell identity whatsoever makes them less valuable to the league, because that is less tickets sold, less jerseys sold and ultimately less fans. Barring a situation where the Titans are tempted with multiple 1rst and 2nd round picks (at least 2 1rst rounders and a second rounder), they will stay put and take the former Oregon QB Mariota who seems to have a promising NFL future ahead of him. However if Chip Kelly all of the sudden gets a "great idea,"...well, it will be an interesting draft day.
